The Union Chapel, London

A few weeks ago I went to see Jeff Magnum play at the Union Chapel in Highbury. Other than being an absolute beautiful live venue, it is also actually a working church and homeless centre.

Photo courtesy of another blog since I didn’t take my camera with me, and didn’t expect the stunning internal architecture!

p.s. I know I’ve been slack, sorry sorry sorry! Take consolation in the fact that my own parents haven’t heard from me in over a month, and I’ll be home in a little over two weeks anyway! YAY!

p.p.s I also discover that I have a stack of draft blog posts I can finish for your enjoyment, so if I don’t get too stressed about last minute packing or get distracted by the early summer here I will try and tell you more about Athens, my thoughts on bullfighting, a day in Venice and half a dozen other things. :S

Last Week:

I went to the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at Tate Modern! (I have to say it wasn’t a disappointment but it was waaaaay to packed to appreciate properly. I loved her small early paintings that I’d never seen before, but definitely preferred her exhibition in Wellington a few years ago. She’s still incredible though.)

I saw the new David Hockney exhibition at Royal Academy! Really really cool. Suprisingly, because I think landscape paintings can be boring, but I loved the saturated colours on traditional UK landscapes. I generally think of England with muted, dusky colours, or maybe brighter greens and yellows, but its a different sort of light than New Zealand. I particularly loved his older stuff though – big bright grand canyons and pink rolling fields. I got excited after about ten minutes of staring at his pictures in the first room, and then something clicked and I went “WHOA!” Also, he has all these new works he’d done on an ipad and blown up huge. Anyway, go and see for yourselves, highly recommended.

A care package arrived from NZ (thanks Mum! and Nana Sherrill for the gloves – soooo warm, and with the most handy-dandy thumb lid so I can still text on my silly touch screen phone, genius!)

I bought new shoes! (Actually, two pairs, one pair of boots to replace these ones Alfie ate, and then a pair of supreme wedges for my sunny days looking elegant and amazing in Turkey)

and got tickets to Paris to see Kanye and Jay-Z! ZOMG.

The tortoise emerged from hibernation, a puppy visited, and I realised I quite like animals (but massively dislike cats on heat.)

We made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday, (though not as good as these amazing ones Katie and I made) and baked banana bread yuuuuuuuum!

I replied to a zillion emails, (thanks guys and sorry it took so long!) ran miles, hired my replacement for work, started sorting out all my belongings, and reinforced my confused mind with how much I love London/can’t wait to go back to New Zealand. Aaaaaaaah.
